Time

Some people complain about not having enough time, while others complaining about having too much. Regardless of how you feel about it, your time is given to you for a reason, and you have to do something with it.

Each day the sun rises, but it also sets. And so too our days begin and end. Each day as the sun rises, you're given time to fulfill your purpose. What is that purpose? Well, it'll look a little different with each person, but ultimately, it'll bring glory to God. That's the reason you are given time.

I was reminded of quickly time can fly over the weekend while talking with Kaytlin. We were recollecting how we had first met, when she mentioned that it has already been 6 months since we first met. It doesn't feel like that long. Time can get away from you, not that it's always bad. If you're life is giving glory to God and the time seems to fly, that's probably good. It' when you're life isn't that you have to watch out, because it's then that you're not using your time wisely.

You may have heard people say that time seems to travel faster as you get older. I believe the point behind this is that as you become more mature and have more responsibilities, your time is taken up much faster, and before you know it, you're years older. Funny thing is, it's actually true that time does travel faster as you get older!

It's called Gravitational Time Dilation, and was first observed/theorized by Albert Einstein. The weaker the gravity, the faster time travels. This is why clocks out in space (for example, on the space station) can have different times when they are returned to earth, despite being in complete sync before one went into space. The effect is rather small, measuring only nanoseconds (billionths of a second) in difference when a short time has passed. However, the effect compounds over longer exposure to less gravity, which could lead to minutes, hours, or even days worth of difference.

How does that affect us here on earth? Well, as time passes, the gravitational field of our planet deteriorates, meaning weaker gravity, and causing the same effect in each person's life, even if it is small. So as you get older, time travels a little bit faster.

But what does all of that have to do with using our time for God's glory? Well, you only have one life here on earth to fulfill that purpose. Time is always passing by and you have to make good use of that time. It will seem to go faster as you get older, so you have to stay on your toes and do your best to spend your time the right way.

Whenever you go to do something, take a second and ask yourself, "Is what I'm doing giving glory to God or going to help me do so in the future? Is it something God would be pleased with?" If you can answer those questions with a yes, then you're on your way to spending your time wisely. Keep praying, keep asking God for help, and keep reading the Bible and you'll find yourself spending your time more wisely.

Godspeed!
