Extremes

When I say extreme, the first thing you think of is probably fire and ice. These two are on the exact opposite sides of the temperature range. Two extremes. They're both good as they are, but there's times when you have to pick one or the other, and other times when you need a balance. The hard part is knowing when.

You see, life is full of extremes. There's fire and ice, warmth and also cold, good and evil, pass and fail, etc. Sometimes our choices tend to be made in extremes as well. We think we have to pick A or B. But sometimes, there's a balance that needs to be found. Sometimes it's choice C that balances between both A and B that we need to pick.

The interesting thing I've found? Most people have a hard time finding choice C in their own decisions, but an easy time finding it in other people's decisions. Which is actually the way it should be, when you think about it. Why? Because God didn't create us a solitary creatures. We're meant to fellowship with other human beings and work together. We can see option C in our friends decisions, and they can see it in ours. Yet another way that we can assist each other.

I realized this over the last week as Kaytlin and I have been talking through some decisions I'm going to have to make this fall. I kept seeing it as an extreme. In each case I had to choose A or B. Kaytlin saw that there was an option C, and she helped me to see it. Looking back, we found that we've actually helped each other find option C in a lot of our decisions. But it's taken being open with each other so that we can search through everything and find option C.

God has put your friends and loved ones in your life for a lot of reasons. One of them is so that you can help each other see the right decision when you're stuck in two extremes. To be sure, they are times when you need to choose one of the extremes, but the people in your life can help you see that too!

So you help them, and let them help you. Make sense of the decisions, weigh the extremes, and when called for find the balance of option C.

Godspeed!

PS – I've been thinking of adding a helpful page of tech definitions to this blog. You know, as a way to help you guys (or help you help others) understand what you're using or what that crazy new tech thing is. If you have a suggestion for something to put in this "Tech Dictionary," leave it in a comment below!
